My name is Eve Miller, and I am excited to introduce myself as a new Account Executive at Smart Connections PR. With over two years of experience in public relations, I’ve developed a strong understanding of the technology sector and built a solid foundation in media relations, strategic communications and client management.
I graduated from California State University, Chico, with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Public Relations and a minor in Communication Design. During my time at Chico State, I was a member of the collegiate Women’s Soccer team my freshman year. I was recruited late as a senior in high school and immediately fell in love with the campus after visiting. When my soccer career was cut short, I initially considered transferring until the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. that same week, making the decision far more complicated.
After deciding to stay and focus on my academics, I never looked back—and I am so happy I didn’t. As I grew both personally and professionally, I became certain that Chico was where I was always meant to be. There, I joined Tehama Group Communications, the university’s student-run public relations firm, where I got hands-on experience in the world of public relations. I learned everything from client relations and media list creation to social media management and mastering the AP style guide.
In my second semester with the program, I was honored to take on the role of Public Relations Director. I led a talented team in developing a fundraising campaign that raised over $3,000 for the program, which went toward additional student resources. The experiences at Chico State set me up for success as I transitioned into the workforce.
I also got to live out my lifelong dream of being a Wildcat, just like in High School Musical!
I enjoyed experiencing the change of seasons during my time in Northern California, but after four years, I was excited to return home to Orange County, California. Since returning, I’ve worked with agencies specializing in a wide range of technology, including healthcare, cybersecurity, automotive, cloud services, space and quantum. Each of these experiences has helped me broaden my expertise and deepen my passion for public relations.
Outside of work, I’m typically playing coed soccer with friends or catching waves on the weekend. While I’m still a beginner in surfing, the sport has taught me a lot about perseverance and adaptability – skills that I’ve been able to translate directly into my work in public relations. While “reading waves” may not directly apply to public relations, the same principles of patience, timing and balance are key to success in both surfing and navigating media relations for B2B tech.
I am thrilled to join the Smart Connections PR team and to work alongside a talented group of professionals who share a passion for technology and creative communications. I’m excited to get started and look forward to growing and expanding my skills here.
